ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Jigsaw was chosen to provide site stabilization and access road reconstruction for a cell tower site. This road had failed due to improper construction techniques employed in its initial construction. This access road served not only the client’s towers, but also served as the road for the City of Pikeville’s Emergency Response System, making the road’s functionality even more critical. The site had limited access and steep slopes and was positioned immediately above a residential subdivision. Multiple slides endangered not just the road but the stability of a large cell tower as well.
Working with the client’s design engineer, Jigsaw’s team developed a solution that addressed both the adverse site conditions and the complicated logistics posed by the site’s location and geometry. Steep slope excavation was performed to stabilize the slides, and an MSE retaining wall was constructed to stabilize the cell tower. In addition, the road was realigned in stable bedrock and drainage measures were installed to control runoff. This project was completed without disrupting the neighborhood and created a stable, safe access road to important communication infrastructure.
